Clément BagotClément Bagot
“Hors-les-murs” on and off-site event
28 June – 27 September 2020
A distinctive set of drawings and sculptures shapes the artistic realm of Clément Bagot. While the former derive from an almost cosmogonic vision leading us to the sidereal challenge of imaginary worlds, the latter involve a whole range of diverse and varied pieces of wood that he uses to create a world of figures that oscillates between anthropomorphism and science fiction. Through an ever-increasing interplay of scale and viewpoint, Clément Bagot invites the viewer to embark on a spatial experience that is both phenomenological and poetic.
His drawings using “rotring” graphic pens, in black and white or colour, defy any perceptual measurement through a minimalist form of writing that requires effort and precision before revealing a kind of microcosmic landscape where the eye can roam and stray. His sculptures, for their part, are like improbable models, sometimes displayed in suspension, that draw the gaze as if on a virtual journey in space and time. At each of the sites — the Croisée de l’Abbaye Sainte-Croix art space and the Abbaye Saint-Jean d’Orbestier respectively — the works of Clément Bagot will surely succeed in prompting discussion to spark visitors’ imagination.
Clément Bagot was born in Paris in 1972. He lives and works in Montreuil.
